Data is now central to banking, healthcare, retail, logistics and government. That demand is why more students search for a data science program in Dehradun each year. But a course name alone says little. Here is how to judge one properly.
What a good data science degree covers
A strong program builds foundations first: mathematics, statistics, programming and databases. It then moves into machine learning, data visualisation, big data tools and applied AI. Ask any college for the semester-wise syllabus, and check how much time goes to projects instead of theory.
Look for hands-on learning
Data science is a practical skill. You should work on real datasets, build models and present findings. Ask about live projects, internships, hackathons and mentoring.
Check the department's AI ecosystem
At Quantum University, the B.Tech (Hons.) in AI & Data Science sits within Computer Science & Engineering, and the university also runs a Dr AK Khare Centre for AI. Centres like this can support research, workshops and project work, so ask how undergraduates can take part.
Industry links matter
Look for certifications, guest lectures and partner-backed training. Quantum lists partners such as Oracle Academy, Samatrix and iNurture across its programs, though you should confirm which ones apply to your specific course.
Know the entry rules
For undergraduate engineering at Quantum, applicants need 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics and at least 50%. Admission is through the Q-CARE entrance-cum-scholarship exam, and JEE Main or CUET scores may be considered for preference or scholarships.
Think about careers
Typical roles include data analyst, data scientist, machine learning engineer and AI engineer. According to the university, it reports an average package of around 5 LPA overall, but data science outcomes vary by batch, so request branch-specific placement data.
Be clear about location
The campus is on the Roorkee–Dehradun Highway, so check commute and hostel options.
