The OIG Exclusion has a list of people and organizations that can’t get involved in federally funded healthcare programs. Somebody gets excluded from the list when they have been convicted of anything involving Medicare fraud, abuse of patients, or felonies for drugs. Healthcare companies need to be aware of this list as federal programs cannot reimburse for payment for goods and services provided by someone on the exclusion list. This regulation is strictly enforced to help protect both the federal government from financially losing money and also to protect patient standards of care within the healthcare facility.
